Ministries

 

Grace and Peace Lutheran Church Ministries carry out the mission of the church.  These Ministries provide the opportunity for any member of the congregation to bring forth ideas and related concerns.

 

Christian Education • Community Action • Endowment

Evangelism • Finance • Long Range Planning • Nurture

Property • Stewardship • Worship and Music • Youth

 


 

Christian Education Ministry

The Christian Education Ministry plans and administers the total educational ministries of the congregation by:

•        determining policies, selecting personnel, and providing the necessary means and facilities to enhance our educational ministry.

•        assessing the educational needs of the community.

•        carrying out specific educational programs such as Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and adult Bible studies.

•        evaluating the educational programs to assure they meet the needs of the congregation.

•        being a resource for the congregation for procuring educational materials.

Community Action Ministry

The Community Action Ministry is to meet the ministry needs of people outside our congregation by:

•        building a sense of awareness of the needs of society and the means with which to meet those needs.

•        working with Evangelism Ministry to provide hospitality to those outside our congregation.

•        administering and encouraging participation in the SHARE Food program, Human Service Center Dinner, American Red Cross Blood Drives, Ministry to Businesses, The Church Mouse, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois Christmas Gift program, Lutheran Senior Ministries, and other programs of social outreach to the community.

Endowment Ministry

The Endowment Ministry receives and administers funds in the Grace and Peace Endowment Fund.  This fund is established to further the outreach ministries in the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please see the Endowment page for more information.

Evangelism Ministry

The Evangelism Ministry presents the Grace and Peace Lutheran Church congregation to the neighborhood and larger community by:

•        planning for systematic evangelism and contacting new people.

•        seeking ways to meet the physical and spiritual needs of our neighborhood.

•        working closely with the Nurture Ministry to seek ways to encourage the inactive back to active participation.

•        working with the Nurture Ministry to plan new member welcome.

•        advocating for those in need beyond our membership.

•        building awareness and support of people’s physical and spiritual needs in other parts of the world.

•        keeping the congregation informed of the work of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in respect to World Missions.

Finance Ministry

The Finance Ministry plans and administers the policies of financial management for the congregation by:

•        supervising the payment of bills and investments.

•        supervising the insurance program of the congregation.

•        conducting an annual audit of the congregation’s financial records in accordance with accepted procedures.

•        supervising Memorial Funds and other special funds as they may be established.

•        collecting data from the other Ministries and preparing a preliminary annual budget which is submitted to the Congregation Council as requested.

•        having a working knowledge of the LCIS computer program.

Long Range Planning Ministry

The Long Range Planning Ministry builds a plan for the future of Grace and Peace Lutheran Church.  This may include, but is not limited to, land acquisition and building plans by:

•        seeking input from all Ministries.

•        monitoring the plan and reporting to the Congregation Council on its success.

•        changing and adjusting the plan to comply with the calling of the Gospel at Grace and Peace.

Nurture Ministry

The Nurture Ministry is to meet the needs of the people of Christ at Grace and Peace by:

•        building up a sense of community.

•        working closely with Evangelism Ministry to seek ways to encourage the inactive back to active participation.

•        working with Evangelism Ministry to plan new member welcome.

•        planning and organizing fellowship and caring events.

•        informing and encouraging the congregation to respond to the needs of its members.

Property Ministry

The Property Ministry plans for, provides, and maintains the physical property of the congregation including buildings, equipment, furnishings, and vehicles by:

•        keeping an updated inventory of all property.

•        being responsible for supervision of the custodial employees.

•        providing written job descriptions for those responsible for custodial or maintenance duties.

Stewardship Ministry

The Stewardship Ministry promotes good Christian Stewardship attitudes in regard to the use of time, talents, and treasures and develops a continuing emphasis on dedicated, proportionate, first fruits giving for the work of the church by:

•        keeping an active role in a year-round stewardship program.

•        encouraging and equipping members for faithful stewardship of time, money, talents, and relationship to Christ.

Worship and Music Ministry

The Worship and Music Ministry plans all regular and special worship activities and ensures that the congregation has regular and frequent opportunities to receive Holy Communion by:

•        providing for all the physical details of worship.

•        organizing, training, and equipping musicians, assisting ministers, lectors, and acolytes.

•        overseeing choirs and special music.

•        explaining worship practices to the congregation.

•        supervising and providing job descriptions for the organist(s) and choir director(s).

•        overseeing, training, and providing a description of duties for the altar guild, greeters, and ushers.

Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry involves the young people of the congregation in the work of Christ, provides for their spiritual growth and nurture, and promotes genuine Christian fellowship for the young people of the congregation by:

•        building up a sense of community for all.

•        encouraging and equipping members for faithful witness.

•        teaching that the Gospel is for all ages.
