- Contemporize the parable of the Great Feast, particularly focusing on excuses we make in our everyday lives that keep us from living a Christian Life. - Connect the Kingdom Parables to the efforts of Habitat for Humanity to create houses for everyone on earth. Create Peace Houses as a reminder that, even in their own homes, they can create the Kingdom of God with a peaceful attitude. February - Early Church - While involving the class in setting up a tent, Paul will tell about setting up the church in Corinth. - After Exploring the scripture, make gift boxes in relation to spiritual gifts. - Hear 1 Corinthians 12: 21-31 and then create mosaic projects to come to a better understanding of what Paul meant about the Body of Christ. March - Crucifixion - Hear Andrew's story and then create a reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus and the further ministry of Andrew. - Discover the differences between the Old and New Covenant. Create a variety of ads to publicize the "New and Improved" version of The Covenant. - Discover the history behind a variety of crosses. Each member will design and make their own cross. April - Witnesses Today - Hear the scripture from Matthew 25: 34-40 as well as contemporary stories that exemplify how individual people have made a difference in the lives of others. Draw a self-portrait as an expression of how they individually are God's presence on earth. - Taste chocolate chip cookies that are made with equal amounts of all the ingredients. Then make the correct recipe learning that even a small amount of some ingredients (gifts or talents) is enough to flavor the whole batch of cookies. - Select and Prepare a Missionary Bear to send to a sister church in the community or another location, making connections with the broader church. May - Prodigal Son - Look at issues of inheritance, comparing biblical times and the present. Reflect on the value of God's unending love. - The father of the Prodigal Son will share his story and encourage journaling/drawing about similar situations in the student's lives. - Hear the story of Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes and make origami cranes. Develop the connection between the family issues in the parable of the Prodigal Son and the issues that cause national/international conflicts.
