HIS BANNER OVER ME IS LOVE -#6

Good News!  We have received one more square!  Now we only need 3 squares to be added to the 15 beautiful ones turned in by our members to be designed into Quilt Banner #6.  It would be so helpful to have all the squares by the end of the year.

Some of the same people who work on the aGAPe quilts work on the quilt banners.  We need some time to do the work of arranging, measuring, sewing, pressing, and quilting the 18 into another handsome wall hanging.  Time is running out.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF INGATHERING

What a wonderful ending to our efforts for LWR this year.  We received a report from Irine Roelfs who is the key person for Central Illinois.  She used the phrase "Passing the Peace" to describe the huge success for this year's numbers.  Our batch of things was added to almost 200 other congregations' deliveries.  In total we sent 3 semi-truckloads to the LWR warehouse in Minneapolis.  They hauled

10,117 quilts/blankets
1,255 layettes
5,169 school kits
567 sewing kits

3,199 health kits
2,2218 lbs. of soap
640 lbs. of fabric
25,809 lbs. of clothing

which filled 4,388 boxes and weighted approximately 80,000 lbs.

On our recent trip to the Eastern United States, we stopped in Baltimore at the international headquarters of Lutheran World Relief.  It was Reformation Sunday so we couldn't tour the building but we did get to see the courtyard with the bricks from all over the country.  Each one represents a gift of $500 to LWR to help send items overseas.  It was a thrill to see ours there.

The building is actually on land that belongs to Christ Lutheran Church next door to the headquarters.  Since it was Sunday morning, we were able to attend church there, which was also a special treat.

LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICE

CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR 2003

We have had an excellent response to the Christmas gifts for Lutheran Social Service kids.  Please remember to have your sack of gifts at church by noon on Sunday, December 14.  Then we will have the final wrapping and sorting with candy canes, mittens, and some religious theme stickers to be added to the big shopping bags.  Please let Roberta know if you can help with the organizing that day so she can have lunch for the workers.
