2 exceptional coffee hours

mean food baskets for LSSI.

THANK YOU

Our church's Thrivent group had lots of help from generous people of our congregation who added $438 on October 12 to the amount of $186.68 from September 21 to qualify for the $400 match from Thrivent to fund
food baskets for clients from LSSI.

On Friday, Oct. 17, about 12 people worked to assemble food baskets for 21 families from LSSI and friends of our church.  We were able to serve 56 persons in those families.  All of them were grateful for the attention in October and the funds for that part came from a grant from the Peoria/Stark county chapter of Thrivent.

Coming up on Friday, Nov. 7, we will be assembling food baskets for another 20 families from LSSI and 3 other families who have ties to our church.  If you are able to help with this, please come to the LSSI office about 3 p.m. on that day.  The office is located at 3000 W. Rohmann in West Peoria.  The funding for these baskets will be the $624.68 from our congregation added to a match of $400 from Thrivent to our church's work project.  Again the caseworkers at LSSI were pleased that we were remembering these families at a time other than Christmas.  People do get hungry all year long!

HIS BANNER OVER ME IS LOVE -#6

We still need 4 squares to be added to the 14 beautiful ones turned in by our members to be designed into Quilt Banner #6.  There are several families who have taken a muslin square but I guess, so far, it is blank.  Get your creative juices flowing and finish that square!  I heard a rumor this week of one square that is almost done!

We need some time to do the work of arranging, measuring, sewing, pressing, and quilting the 18 into another handsome wall hanging.  Time is running out.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF INGATHERING

It was a blessing on Sunday, Oct. 19, to be part of the congregation and lay hands on the 128 quilts to be sent to Lutheran World Relief.  Pastor's sermon regarding our servanthood as a believer really hit the mark and will encourage all of us who work on the quilts for about 9 mos. each year.

On Monday, Oct. 20, Edie Albright, Kay Bartholomew, Roberta Dietrich, Barbara Purple, and Sam Sylvester packed the quilts along with 80 school kits, 25 health kits, 15 layettes, and 23 boxes of clothing into the truck loaned to us by the Norens.  On Saturday, Oct. 25, Sam and Sue Sylvester delivered our 49 boxes along with 6 boxes of quilts from St. Timothy of Wyoming, and several boxes from Our Savior in Washington to the big Ingathering depot at St. John Lutheran in Bloomington.  There, the semi-trailers awaited their load for delivery to the warehouse near Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Thank you to all who donated to the various projects, and to Women of Grace and Peace who made the $15 donation to help with the shipping costs.
