At the Center a Black Cross

At the center of Luther's Seal is a Black Cross to remind us that there is part of each of us that must die daily. For if the sin that affects each of us is not dealt with in the baptismal grace of the cross we will face eternal death, and self centered sin will rule our heart.  But the cross also reminds us that Christ took our place and faced God's wrath and that we are free.  Our sinfulness is forgiven by Christ alone.

Around the Cross a Red Heart

Our response to this good news is Faith.  Our hearts wrap themselves around the cross of Christ.  We are saved by faith alone.  A faith that is active in love for God and for neighbor.

A White Rose that Symbolizes Christian joy.

The Christian life is blessed with joy.  The color white indicates that our joy is dependent on earthly circumstances.  Be of good cheer because Jesus Christ has overcome the world.

The Blue Sky of Heavenly Blessings.

The blue points us ahead to the better world we have with Christ in his home which has already begun for us here on earth but is brought to completion in the life to come.  Here we have a foretaste of the feast to come.

A Gold Ring That Has No End

Just as a circle has no beginning and no end, so God's promise is for eternity.
