One of the stories in the quilt book I mentioned in February is "The Gift that Keeps Giving."  About 5 years ago our congregation (with a match from then Aid Association for Lutherans) sent $500 to purchase a brick in the Good Samaritan Quilt Plaza at the new headquarters of Lutheran World Relief in Baltimore.  Besides the brick that $500 represented $$$ to send 250 quilts to places in the world where they were needed the most.

On September 27 there will be another ceremony in Baltimore to install and commemorate the 1000th brick for the Plaza.  I would love to be there but Dave and I already have travel plans that begin that day.  I really wish I could be in two places at once because there will be workshops on various facets of LWR's ministry and a guest speaker who was a LWR quilt recipient in India.  Maybe he received one of our quilts?

The information and invitation are posted on the bulletin board in case anyone else from Grace and Peace would like to send in a reservation and attend.

Our aGAPe is glad to say that we have 112 quilts ready for LWR.  We will be meeting on Wednesdays, September 10 and 24, to work on more quilts.  Come and join us about 11:30 a.m. with your sack lunch and/or at noon for work.

  Number 6 banner squares

We still need 4 more finished quilt blocks for the 6th family banner.  There are so many ways to design your square - machine or hand embroidery, photo copying, screen printing, painting, quilt piecing, cut and fusing shapes or letters, crocheting, or counted cross-stitch.

Take a look at the squares in the 5 banners on display now to get some ideas.

This paragraph includes a code listing of those families who still need to turn in a square - L-----, H-----, B---, B------, T------, S----, H----,
V-------, C-----, E--------, F-----------, E-------, T-----, Y----, D------,
L----.

Please turn your attention to this project!  Time is running out.  See Roberta Dietrich if you need a square of muslin.

Being a good steward is to be concerned about, take care of, and to take responsibility for your life, your family, your job, your community, and your church.
The Great Room is a very busy place, not only on Sundays but almost every day of the week.  Actually all of our rooms are very busy every day.  All sorts of meetings, classes, projects, and fellowship happen here.
We are going to have the carpet professionally cleaned again within the next 2 weeks.  Please take your place as a steward and either clean up after a class or project or a spill or report to the custodians that there is a spot to clean.  It is so much easier to clean anything when it is a fresh spot.
