Grace and
Peace Lutheran Congregation Council
August 19, 2003
Present:
Pastor Shelksohn, Julie Smith, Paul Mueller, Hilary Shirven,
Kristina Glenzinski, Sandy Peterson, Mary Whitledge, Jan Jarrett, Dave
Dietrich, Roberta Dietrich, Nancy Claude and Keri Dodson. Pastor
Shelksohn led the Council in prayer and Keri Dodson shared a devotion.
Sharing The Vision:
Julie informed the Council of two workshops that she felt were
worthwhile to attend: one on October 18th - Praise, Pray
and Proclaim! - at Faith Lutheran in Springfield; the other is on
Healthy Congregations, a Leadership Workshop, at Belvidere on November
15th. Julie encouraged Council members to attend.
MINISTRY
REPORTS
LONG RANGE PLANNING - The meeting of the office
technology group was cancelled. They will reschedule soon. Long
Range Planning has a meeting on September 8th.
NURTURE MINISTRY - Nuture is planning an event for
the 41+ Couples Group in September - either a potluck or cookout.
December 6th has been set for Christmas Caroling to
shut-ins. Next meeting is September 14th at 10:00 a.m.
PROPERTY MINISTRY -Nancy reported that the carpets will be
professionally cleaned soon and following that a dry treatment will be
tried which is better for the carpets. Before this can be tried, the
rugs must be professionally cleaned first. Roberta asked that because
of a much higher than expected insurance premium payment due this
quarter, that the carpets be cleaned in September - to help with cash
flow.
COMMUNITY ACTION - The blood drive will be held on
September 16 from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Keri received information on
the Walk/Fun Run on September 13th. Keri has been talking
with a representative from Manor Care and will look into the
possibility of having a health fair.
FINANCE MINISTRY - Still investigating the increased premiums
for our insurance coverage. July was a normal month. Projecting
figures for October and November shows there may be a cash flow
problem. Ministries were asked to check with Roberta before planning
to spend big amounts from their budgeted lines. Finance reports for
the month of July were included in the Council packets.
STEWARDSHIP MINISTRY - A mail campaign will be
developed by the committee similar to last year for the Stewardship
Drive. A musical readers' theater and dessert will be performed in
October for the congregation to say thank you for their response to
Stewardship activities of the past two years.
WORSHIP AND MUSIC MINISTRY - The Worship and Praise
Service is showing growth. Equipment needs for this service are being
studied. The Brown Bag Concerts will continue next year as an
outreach to our neighboring businesses - changes and improvements were
discussed. Richard suggested having music at the church yard sale.
This ministry discussed incorporating an opportunity to be anointed
for healing during communion services.
